Architecture professionals recognised in 2023 Honours and Awards

The Australian Institute of Architects has paid tribute to the architects and design professionals recognised in this year’s Australian Honours and Awards.

Built environment professionals in the public, business and not-for-profit sectors were nominated in the 2023 Australian Awards List for their outstanding service or exceptional achievement.

Former Chief Executive Officer of Urban Taskforce Australia, Christopher Johnson, was appointed an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his distinguished service to urban design and architecture, planning reform and compliance, and to the community.

The Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects and former New South Wales Government Architect was recognised for his contributions to development and planning committees and advisory groups for government, as well as authoring books on urban planning and architecture.

Award-winning Victorian architect Elisabetta Giannini was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia.

Ms Giannini was a director of MGS Architects from 2000 to 2021 and is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects since 2008. She has also served as Deputy Chair of the National Gender Equity Committee.

The Australian Honours and Awards system recognises recipients from across all industries, locations and areas of service.

The Honours and Awards Secretariat assesses nominations, which are considered by the Council of the Order of Australia. Recommendations are sent to the Office of the Governor-General.
